In this light, we are looking for someone that is interested and ready for a rewarding challenge.   One who can look at solar asset investments in generation capacity with a “long term” operational view.  Your environment will be working with internal and external stakeholders within the solar commercial/industrial FIT marketplace.

The Client:

Our client is an energy company created for the sole purpose of designing, building and owning green energy systems.  They are a fully integrated green energy utility with a long-term investment horizon.  They are fully capitalized and they will own the solar PV assets they build for the term of the contract.


Job Profile:

As VP of Engineering, you will oversee the solar asset development portfolio of projects to support the growth and add to the bottom line of the organization.  You will focus on strategic planning and goal-setting, and direct the solar asset development team of the company in support of its goals.  By measuring progress and adjusting processes accordingly, you will keep the entire organization on track.

As a highly motivated individual with very strong engineering, operational, communication, and organization skills, you will lead/work with a team of professionals to deliver superior service.  The “ideal” candidate will come from a renewable or low carbon background and bring with them engineering management skills that can be built upon within this successful company.


Reporting to the President, primary responsibilities for this position include the following:

Defining and implementing company’s policies with respect to photovoltaic (PV) power production, operations and maintenance, internal engineering, safety and health, performance expectations, service/maintenance and business development;

  • Formulating and establishing company’s engineering/operational plans;
  • Managing a team of professionals to ensure that company’s objectives and tasks are met as per company’s strategic planning and growth development goals;
  • Assigning and allocating material, human and financial resources of company as part of its annual operational plans;
  • Directing PV production by identifying the best technical, operational and financial results for each PV production facilities;
  • Organizing PV production by establishing key performance indicators;
  • Assisting in establishing growth objectives by identifying potential opportunities;
  • Evaluating the quality of PV production systems on an ongoing basis;
  • Coordinating and planning activities of the engineering department and asset development team.

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of experience, knowledge, and skills:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related degree; MBA would be an asset
  • Licensed Professional Engineer Ontario
  • Must have at least 5+ years of experience at the engineering management level
  • Must have solar and/or energy and project finance experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task across multiple projects
  • Effective time and cost manager with process design and execution discipline
  • Aspirations to build a great company that meets its economic, environmental and social responsibility goals
  • Creative entrepreneurial skills with strong commercial judgment
